    Kitty and turkey!

    Kitty and turkey!

I’ve been back in Texas for just over a week now, and it’s already Thanksgiving! I had some great food, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, and of course turkey but with a surprisingly bitter cranberry sauce (someone forgot the sugar!).

This was kind of a weird Thanksgiving, I’m used to having a large crowd but this year just my parents, my younger brother and I were around the table. My two other brothers are off at college but will be back for xmas. There’s no way we’re going to finish all the leftovers!

Also, I got back all the legal mumbo jumbo for my new technology consulting business, it’s now official! I’ll do another post about how easy it is to register a business and some of the things to consider when you’re forming a new business.

After some miscommunication last weekend, I’ll finally be heading up to Austin to look at some office space and apartments in another week. There’s lots of great spots everyone has been telling me about so I’m going to do some exploring as well with my new GPS (nerd alert! ;P). If you know any secrets about Austin, let me know!

Why would anyone want to start their own business? Before I left my corporate job, plenty of people thought I was crazy to want to leave a ‘guaranteed’ regular paycheck and strike it out on my own. The truth is, nothing in life is guaranteed. Job security is a thing of the past.

Invest in yourself. How many times have you seen someone doing something at work one way and said ‘there’s a better way to do that!’ only to be told by your boss that they’re not interested? Isn’t it time you got more of the credit for your own work? You deserve it!

What will you do? Do your own thing! What kind of business should you start? You might not realize it, but almost everyone has a special skill or hobby that they can turn into a business. If you’ve tried and tried but still can’t come up with anything, don’t worry! There are plenty of resources available that you can use to learn just about anything. Books are still a great way to teach yourself, but now there are so many other ways to learn on the internet.

It’s your life. How do you want to spend it? Set your own schedule, determine your own best strategy and be your own boss!

    In a London pub!

    In a London pub!

Ok, here’s the back story for everyone who wants to follow along. I was born in the Netherlands, lived in Canada, New Jersey, and currently reside in the great state of Texas. I went to college at Penn State and the University of Houston where I graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering Technology. My most recent foray into the corporate office world was with a nice company doing computer forensics. I quit recently to pursue an internet startup company with a friend.

I’m in London right now! Depending on whether or not our startup takes off or not, I may be looking for a new job soon. In any case, I enjoy working with electronics and being creative.

Once I get back to the states in a few weeks, I’m planning to sort out some things and probably move to Austin, TX unless I find a great opportunity somewhere else. In the mean time, if anyone wants to go on an adventure, I’ve got some free time. I have a ski trip planned for after xmas!

I’m going to use this blog to talk about company startups, technology and interesting things happening in my life. For more about me, check out the about page.
